Fintona win Cup and Dromore take Shield in 2016 Harte Memorial Tournament
The annual Harte Memorial Under 12 Football Tournament went ahead at Páirc an Locha on Saturday last and following a great day of play, with 12 clubs in action, it was Fintona and Dromore who came away with victories.
The majority of the days matches proved finely balanced all the way through and after the series of round robin league games it was down to the semi finals in both the Shield and the main Cup event.
The Cup competition eventually saw a title showdown between Fintona Pearses, who had a terrific win in extra-time against Killyclogher, and Donaghmore. The final between the sides saw Donaghmore lead by 5-2 at half-time but on the resumption the Pearses scored five points without reply to go 0-7 to 0-5 ahead. An exciting climax followed but it was Fintona who held out for a thrilling success, winning the Cup final 0-8 to 0-7.
Loughmacrory were very unlucky 0-5 to 0-4 semi final losers in the Shield competition to Dromore St. Dympna’s, having shown very good form on the day. In the other half of the draw it was Galbally who emerged to contest the final and although the Pearses exhibited very good form, it was Dromore who emerged as impressive winners in the Shield final by 0-8 to 0-1.
Declan Harte was there alongside club chairman, Stephen McCullagh, to make the trophy presentations.
