Loughmacrory ladies season ended with narrow defeat in League semi final
The Loughmacrory ladies senior football team saw the curtain come down on the 2015 season when falling to Drumragh in a highly entertaining League semi final at the Sarsfield’s venue on Saturday afternoon.
Loughmacrory had defeated Drumragh in a close championship quarter final encounter back in August which suggested this was always going to be a close one and that is how it proved in the final analysis as the action swung into the closing exchanges. Drumragh were 1-8 to 1-3 in front at half-time, the Loughmacrory goal coming from full-forward Lisa McAleer but Drumragh led for the entire second half and were 1-10 to 1-5 in front as the match entered the last ten minutes of play.
A second Loughmacrory goal then followed to make for a frantic finish to the game and both sides had a number of chances in the closing stages. In the end though it was Drumragh who held out for a 1-13 to 2-8 victory and book their place in the 2015 league decider.
Loughmacrory had also lost out in the semi final of the championship to Trillick but there remains renewed optimism and plenty to look forward to next season!
Next up on the ladies football front will be the Girls Under 16 Grade 2 Championship quarter final which will again see Loughmacrory come face to face with Drumragh, again in Clanabogan, on Sunday at 1pm.
Following a midweek defeat to Glenelly, the league challenge concluded for Loughmacrory with all eyes now on the championship.
