Ladies football season concludes for Loughmacrory

The curtain came down on the 2015 ladies football campaign for Loughmacrory on Sunday when the Under 16 team lost out to a very good Glenelly team in the semi final of the grade 2 championship.

The St. Teresa’s girls had exhibited excellent form going into the game with a fine win over a fancied Drumragh side and for much of this semi final tie there was very little between the teams. A well taken first half goal from Mairead Fox ensured Loughmacrory were very much in contention going in at the break, trailing by five points on a 1-8 to 1-3 scoreline, with Mairead also hitting all three points from frees.

In the second period Loughmacrory staged an early revival with three scores from Mairead Fox and two points from Aideen Curran at one end of the field while Glenelly delivered another goal at the opposite end of the park. However it was Glenelly’s ability to grab goals which proved decisive and they added a further 2-1 in the final eight minutes to record a victory on a 4-9 to 1-8 final scoreline.

This was another good showing from the Loughmacrory girls, who completed the Grade 3 Under 14 treble twelve months ago so would be clearly hopeful of a big year again in 2016.
