Crunch league tie for Loughmacrory at Kildress on Sunday

It has been another good year for Loughmacrory St. Teresa’s GAA club but a great deal could also depend on what unfolds in the coming weeks on the playing field.

While the Under 16 team are still within shouting distance of an historic Grade 1 Championship triumph, with the replay of the County final against Dromore in just over one week’s time, the club Senior football team have a big games ahead in the All County League Division 2 this Sunday.

Galbally Pearses were actually crowned league champions on Tuesday evening when they defeated neighbours Killeeshil, who are relegated to Division 3 for next season, and newly crowned Intermediate champions, Edendork, lost out to Cookstown on the same night.

Loughmacrory’s 1-16 to 0-11 defeat at the hands of Moortown last weekend now means that the team are sitting joint third from bottom on ten league points alongside Urney St. Columba’s and Gortin St. Patrick’s.

Ultimately it is a tough final round of the league for Loughmacrory as the team travel to Kildress and it would seem that a win against the Wolfetones could prove crucial. The St. Teresa’s defeated Kildress in the opening round of the championship but are now battling for Division 2 survival and much could also depend on the outcome of the other two ties. Gortin are at home to a Rock side who are already relegated no matter what happens in that tie so the St. Patrick’s could be fancied there while Urney travel to take on Edendork in a repeat of the county final. In respect of that last game Edendork cannot now win the league so effectively have nothing to play for with the Ulster Intermediate Club Championship just around the corner.

Coming from Division 3, Aghaloo are up as league champions while Brackaville secure promotion via their Junior championship success. Castlederg, Owen Roes, Glenelly and Tattyreagh will contest the promotion playoff places at the top of Division 3 with the winners of that series to face whoever finishes third from bottom in Division 2.

A huge game therefore for Loughmacrory on Sunday!
