Road Closure & Parking Information for Saturday 2nd August

Dear Resident,

Ref:  Temporary Road Closure

You will be aware that the ‘Tri the Lough’ triathlon will take place in Loughmacrory on Saturday 2nd August.  The event has been organised by Cumann Naomh Treasa CLG and Omagh Triathlon club.

The event consists of a 750m swim, followed by a 21km cycle and a 5km run.

After completing the swim, participants will cycle 2 laps of a 10.5km circuitous route leaving the lough side area via the car park and turning left on to the Loughmacrory Rd.  The cyclists will then take right on to the Mullinmore Rd until Mc William’s crossroads and turn right along the Camlough Rd.

They will continue along the Camlough Rd and turn right on to the Slievebane Rd and proceed as far as the ‘crow’s foot’ where they will turn right along the Loughmacrory Rd and back into the village.  The cyclists will do 2 laps of the route, returning to the transition area via the Ballybrack Rd.

Considering the scale of this activity and the associated health and safety implications for cyclists, spectators and residents, it will be necessary to close the road for the duration of the cycle.

Given the fact that people live along the proposed route, we wish to cause as little disruption as possible for residents.  As such, you should be aware of the following:

  • The cycle will commence in at 2pm and conclude in the village at approx 3.30pm.
  • During the hours of 2.00pm – 4pm the Ballybrack Rd, Loughmacrory Rd, Mullinmore Rd, Camlough Rd, Slievebane Rd will be closed to non emergency traffic.
  • Stewards will be in place at the junctions of Fingrean Rd/Loughmacrory Rd (the ‘piggery’); Drumnakilly Rd/Camlough Rd; Loughmacrory Rd/Coolaharan Rd; to divert non-local traffic away from the route

I hope that this will not cause you or your family inconvenience and if you have any questions relating to any aspect of the triathlon, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

John Kelly, Chair of Tri the Lough Organising Committee

Sean Healy, Chair of Omagh Triathlon Club
